My guess is that we all have favorite yarns and yarn weights we prefer to work over others. When I first started knitting, I remember telling Kristi at Eleganza that I would never work on that “little” yarn. Of course she laughed at me and said that most knitting is done on size 6 needles. Since then of course things have changed…
If you have been in the shop over the summer, I’m sure you heard me or Dami fussing about working on summer yarns. We both made the Silken Straw by Purl Bee. Mine is the pink below done in ITO Serishin – 100% Silk Tape and Dami did hers in ITO Kouki– a Silk and Rami blend.
Both of these are gorgeous. The silk tape took a bit to get use to. It is very different than working on plump merino. It is slick and flat sorta like dental floss. Mom kept telling me that it was going to be beautiful. Of course she was working on her worsted weight. Needless to say I was so happy to get if off the needles and give it to her to block. As usual she was right, it turned out great. And when Dami wears her Silken Straw and gets compliments on it left and right, she will smile and think “if you only knew.” Just another sacrifice we make for perfection. And Like a lot of things in life, the process might be long and tedious, but the results are worth it. So as I sit on the green couch, working on my Groovy, I look across the room at the beautiful shiny silk tee, I think to myself…it wasn’t so bad.
Now with a few weeks of summer left, you can get any of the summer yarns, excluding the Universal Cotton for 25% off for that last minute summer project!
