The boys suggested we go to NYC for Easter weekend. Someone knows how to get me hook, line, and sinker! So I rearranged the calendar and off we went.
I am amazed and fascinated by all old big cities for certain. I always want to explore the secret places that only the regulars know. I didn’t really get to explore these places this time, as too much time was spent at the NBA, NikeTown, and Under Armour stores. But as we were trekking around on foot and subway, I kept saying (out loud) how did all of this get built? Who had the time? Paul would just say something smart like… “I know…how do you build this and be on conference calls all day?” And I’m just shaking my head saying…no I’m serious. How did they build the subways? How much time did all of this take? How many people were working on it? It just all seems so massive. Then on the last day, we were on the Subway again on our way to something and we are looking out the windows and Paul said, “see they aren’t done…they just keep building.” I just kept thinking about what people can do if they have the time.
I worked on my Dotted Rays shawl every chance I got. I started it on the plane to Stitches West, and was determined to finish it on this trip. I was on the last wedge, and it seemed never ending. On the drive home, I told Paul that I was almost done with it and that I was tired of the darn thing. He said, “I don’t know how you do it. And even when you finish this thing, I’ll turn around and you will be knitting something else, you are always knitting something, you are never done.” And in my mind I heard Laura Silberman say “we are always knitting.” 🙂 So I just said, “Yep, kinda like those buildings and subways, one stitch or brick at a time, we keep making.”
I finished the shawl. Mom blocked it and it’s in the shop.

- Duck Duck Wool 80/20 Merino Silk 600 yds. are in.
Free Patterns (I like)
Tejido Cowl by Sarah Solomon. This cowl uses approx 500 yds. of fingering weight yarn, so DDW 80/20 600 yds. would be a great option for this project. This would look great in any variegated yarn.
I also like this cute Starfighter Slouch Hat by Tracey Cox. This would be cute in WSK DK or Primerose DK.
and these Just Because Socks by Laura Jenkins are FREE till April 3rd.
Just keep knitting!

It’s so true, isn’t it? Whenever I’m nearing the end of a project I feel this rush to just finish it. But as soon as it’s off the needles it just gets replaced by another project that eventually becomes the one that I can’t wait to finish. It’s an endless cycle. I know there’s a lesson in being more zen somewhere in here. (Your dotted rays looks great!)
I love that slouchy hat pattern you linked to! Perfect for the many, many DK skeins I keep collecting…as well as the many heads who want hats :). Saw the Dotted Ray in the shop and it’s fabulous!
